Wallpaper Installation Instructions

For the best results, we recommend professional installation. Please read these instructions completely before beginning.

Before You Begin

  • Inspect all wallpaper before installation. Confirm that the design, color, quantity, and rolls are correct and that there are no visible defects. Do not install wallpaper with visible defects.
  • Make sure all rolls are from the same production run and colorway.
  • Prepare the wall so it is clean, smooth, dry, and free of dust, grease, loose paint, and other debris.
  • Repair holes and imperfections and sand smooth. For best results, prime the wall with a wallpaper primer and allow it to dry completely.
  • Keep the room at a comfortable, consistent temperature during installation and while the wallpaper dries.

Installation

  1. Plan your layout. Determine where the first panel will be placed. Use a level to draw a vertical plumb line as your guide. Do not assume the corner or ceiling is perfectly straight.
  2. Cut your panels. Cut each panel to the required length, allowing a small amount of extra material at the top and bottom for trimming. Pay close attention to the pattern repeat and match the design carefully from panel to panel.
  3. Apply adhesive. Use a high-quality, clear, premixed adhesive recommended for nonwoven wallpaper. Apply the adhesive evenly to the wall according to the adhesive manufacturer's instructions. Avoid getting adhesive on the wallpaper surface.
  4. Hang the first panel. Position the wallpaper along your plumb line, leaving the extra material at the top and bottom. Gently smooth the panel from the center outward using a wallpaper smoother or soft brush. Work carefully to remove air pockets without stretching or creasing the wallpaper.
  5. Hang subsequent panels. Butt adjoining panels together without overlapping. Match the design carefully at each seam. Smooth each panel into place, taking care not to overwork the surface.
  6. Trim the edges. Once the wallpaper is positioned, trim the excess at the ceiling and baseboard with a sharp blade and straightedge. Change blades frequently for clean cuts.
  7. Clean as you go. If adhesive gets onto the wallpaper, gently remove it with a clean, damp sponge before it dries. Do not scrub or excessively wet the surface.

After Installation

Allow the wallpaper to dry naturally. Avoid excessive heat, strong drafts, or high humidity while it is drying. Do not force-dry the wallpaper, as rapid drying can affect seams and adhesion.
